In a recent radio interview to Greek station Sport24 103.3, Tasios stressed that Greek hotels this season is seeing overnight stays down by 15 percent on the mainland and 10 percent on the islands, while hotels have made “generous deals” that have left an impact on their average income. According to the federation’s president, 2019 is the year of “correction” for Greek tourism. “2019 is ringing alarm bells for 2020”, Tasios said, noting that the big challenge for the coming years is to attract road tourists back to Greece from Central West Europe. Following the blow to the country’s tourism brought by the problematic ferry service of Samothrace, which brought mass cancellations to the island’s hotels, the federation’s president once again highlighted the fact that Greece needs investments and upgrades in infrastructure. Moreover, Tasios referred to the government’s announced 10-year strategic plan for tourism and called for the cooperation and dialogue of the sector’s stakeholders.
