Greetings 2019 Key Tourism Figures 2019: Kostas Bakoyannis, Mayor of Athens by GTP editing team 1 November 2019 written by GTP editing team 1 November 2019 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 39 We now have the opportunity to transform Athens into a contemporary European capital In an era where the opportunity to travel is open to so many, at a time where Athens has been rising as an exciting destination in Southern Europe, it is my great honour and privilege to take on the role of Mayor and serve this great city. For the last few years, the City of Athens has been working closely with major industry stakeholders, launching campaigns and pulling resources to highlight what is on offer in Athens and create the right conditions for our city to thrive. On our part, we will continue to ensure that we offer attractive and exciting experiences, for visitors and investors, for those who live in and love our city. What I can promise you is that the new municipal authority and I personally will not settle for allusions to our glorious past. We will work for a better city therefore a better destination; we will strive for a city where everyone is heard, where neighborhoods are regenerated and the centre is revitalised. There are issues that demand our utmost attention. We appreciate that this is a race; against other destinations and against ourselves. But we remain focused on delivering the best opportunities for our residents and visitors. Let us all collaborate to make our city a more vibrant and attractive destination. What I can promise you is that we mean business. Tourism has been of huge value to our local economy throughout the crisis and continues to drive growth and spark development and international interest in our unique city. What I can promise you is that we will work closely with business and other stakeholders to support the tourism sector and coordinate our efforts for a better Athens for all.
