Surveys, Trends & Stats Greek Airport Passenger Traffic Up in First 10 Months by GTP editing team 14 November 2019 written by GTP editing team 14 November 2019 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 22 The number of passengers passing through Greek airports rose 5.1 percent year on year in the first 10 months of 2019, the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA) announced on Thursday. According to HCAA, airports in Greece served 60,262,301 people between January – October, up from 57,350,192 during the same period in 2018, showing 2,912,109 more passengers this year. The figures also showed Greece served 491,389 planes in the first 10 months of the year (of which 304,057 were international flights and 187,332 were domestic), indicating a rise of 4.4 percent from the same period last year. In October alone, 5,782,940 passengers passed through Greek airports, a total increase of 7.6 percent compared to the same month last year. The total number of flights at Greek airports in October was 47,332, up 5.4 percent year-on-year. The number of foreign passengers in October reached almost 1,870,027, up 8.4 percent compared to the same month in 2018. October’s top 5 airports The top 5 airports in Greece that received the most passengers in October were those of Athens (2,295,280), Heraklion (821,479), Thessaloniki (607,571), Rhodes (549,061) and Chania (286,170). According to the HCAA, during the first ten months of the year, the airport of Ioannina recorded the highest passenger traffic growth out of all of Greece’s airports, marking a 27.5 percent increase and handling 117,592 passengers against 92,208 in the same period last year. The airports of Naxos and Kalamata followed with passenger traffic growth up by 22.1 percent and 20.6 percent respectively.
