The possibility of launching hiring and training programs, in view of the start of the summer tourism season, for the unemployed at Greek destinations, was discussed recently between Deputy Tourism Minister Manos Konsolas and the governor of Greece’s Manpower Employment Organization (OAED) Spiros Protopsaltis.

Issues affecting employees and tourism business owners topped the agenda of talks, which also included the idea of offering incentives to tourism businesses to hire additional staff.

Konsolas and Protopsaltis also focused on the possibility of running training programs for high-demand jobs in tourism.

The talks follow recently announced ministry plans for the upgrade of tourism education, include setting up a university specializing in tourism studies, upgrading curricula offered at current vocational training programs, and introducing modern areas of specialization that will correspond to the country’s development model for tourism in the coming years.

Konsolas has repeatedly stressed that the ministry’s priority is aiming to do away with outdated practices and introduce modern fields of study, utilize modern technologies, and collaborate with universities abroad.
