The Brussels summit will aim to endorse the objective of achieving a climate-neutral EU by 2050. Travel and tourism generates 5 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. During the COP25 UN climate summit in Madrid, this week, WTTC reiterated its commitment to the global fight against climate change through its “Climate & Environment Action Plan: S0AR”, which will include a set of targets, energy efficiency measures, and initiatives to reduce the use of plastics, food waste and others. In the meantime, WTTC recognizes companies taking proactive action in this direction through its “Sustainable Travel & Tourism Partner” program. Current targets set for the European Union include cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent by 2030.
