Greece’s governors and vice governors from the country’s 13 regions will gather in Athens on Tuesday to attend the first meeting of the country’s recently established Regional Tourism Council.

An initiative of Tourism Minister Harry Theoharis – announced in the summer – the council’s aim is to focus on coordinating actions under a single tourism policy, exchange best practices, and resolve problems that the Greek regions face.

Chaired by the tourism minister, the council’s first meeting will see head representatives of the Tourism Ministry and the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) discussing issues on Greece’s tourism development with the govenors and vice governors from the country’s 13 regions.

A workshop will be held following the meeting, where a range of topics will be analyzed. Among other things, studies on the upgrade of marine tourism will be presented, while a discussion will be held on how exactly to identify each region’s special features in order to promote them as unique selling points (USPs) to markets abroad.
