Lloyd’s List has included 13 Greeks among the 100 most influential people in the shipping industry for 2019.

According to the 10th instalment of Lloyd’s List’s Top 100 most influential people in maritime, China’s shipping giants China Cosco Shipping Corp and China Merchants Group, represented by Xu Lirong and Li Jianhong, respectively, top the tree in the 2019 rankings of Lloyd’s List.  Both shipping giants are present in Greece, in the ports of Piraeus and Thessaloniki respectively.

The first Greek on the list is, once again, John Angelicoussis, owner of Angelicoussis Shipping Group, who ranked 7th (from 6th last year).

“While John Angelicoussis gives little sign that it is anything other than business as usual for Greece’s biggest shipowner and the world’s largest purely private shipowning group, it is continuing to grow, reaching more than 130 vessels and about 29m dwt, including $2.8bn worth of newbuildings on order,” Lloyd’s List says.

The next Greek in the Top 100 is George Prokopiou, founder and owner of Dynacom/Dynagas, who holds the 13th place (from 12th), followed by TMS’s George Economou in 19th place (from 25th) and Angeliki Frangou, head of Navios Maritime Holdings, in the 20th place (from 22nd).

Other Greeks at the top are Peter G. Livanos of GasLog, who ranks 25th (from 24th), followed by Petros Pappas, CEO of Star Bulk, at 29th place.
