According to Goldair, construction work on a new freight center in Thriassio, west of Athens, is set to begin in 2020 with the contract in the final stage of approval by the European Commission. In the meantime, the group’s Goldair AAS Assistance AG – a joint venture between Goldair Handling and Airline Assistance Switzerland AG – recently announced that it had entered a five-year single supplier contract, with Flughafen Zürich AG for the provision as of January 1 of services to passengers with disabilities and/or with reduced mobility (PRM) at Zurich Airport. A total of 200 new jobs will open up for the service. By the end of 2019, the company will have served more than 129,000 flights marking 1 percent increase against last year, while enhancing airline safety and passenger service quality. Additionally, an estimated 51,000 tons of cargo and mail will have been handled at the company’s cargo station at Athens International Airport (AIA). In the meantime, Goldair’s VIP lounge at AIA is forecast at achieving a 27 percent rise in visitor numbers compared to 2018 by year’s end. A top employer, Goldair Handling engages more than 3,500 employees in the summer period – up by 1.6 percent in Greece – and some 1,100 in Cyprus and Bulgaria. ICAP ranked the company 23rd in the “Leading Employers in Greece” list. The company also invested 3.5 million euros in the upgrade of its ground handling equipment. For its performance and quality services, the Athens-based group was awarded the Corporate Superbrand Award 2019, a bronze in the HR Awards for “Most Effective Recruitment Strategy: Resourcing and Diversity”, AIA’s “Environmental Excellence Award”, and the Health and Safety Award in the “Corporate Health and Safety Implementation Activities” category.
