The head of an Ancient Kouros statue, dating back to the Archaic period (6th century BC) and presumed to be of particular archaeological value, was recently confiscated by the Attica Security Division of Cultural Heritage and Antiquities Department.

A Greek man was arrested in Nemea, in Corinth, southern Greece, for illegal possession of the ancient artifact.

According to the Attica police report, the man was discovered to be looking for buyers to sell the head for 500,000 euros.

Kouros statues are ancient Greek sculptures that first appear in the Archaic period in Greece and represent nude male youths.

The discovered Kouros head measures 40 cm in the vertical, with a section of its neck preserved, is made of limestone and appears to have originated from an ancient provincial workshop, which makes it unique in terms of archaeological value.
