According to local media reports, the EEEP said that Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment was the only bidder to move into the next phase of the procedure. According to the EEEP statement, Hard Rock International has been excluded from the following round due to incomplete documentation. This leaves the Mohegan- GEK Terna Group consortium as the only contender for the license. Local media are reporting that after the final legal details are in place, construction on the casino resort may begin in the first six months of this year. Budgeted at 1 billion euros, the casino will officially launch construction on the 9-billion-euro Hellinikon project. The casino-resort will be the first and largest investment set to go up on the premises of Athens’ former airport. The project is expected to create some 7,000 jobs and increase inbound flights by 10 percent. The “INSPIRE Athens” casino project. The resort is set to include a luxury hotel, entertainment venues, a convention center, shopping, dining and casino facilities, and a mix of premium amenities.
