The Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) announced that it is expecting more arrivals from Norway to Greece in 2020, with Norwegian holidaymakers opting for the country’s nature, sea options and alternative forms of tourism.

The announcement follows the organization’s participation in Reiselivsmessen 2020, the international tourism fair which is held annually in Oslo.

According to data from the GNTO, arrivals from Norway increased by an average rate of 5 percent between 2016 and October 2019.

GNTO participated in the fair during January 4-5, with its own stand together with the Region of Crete and the Regional Unit of Chania.

Reiselivsmessen 2020 hosted 133 exhibitors and was attended by 22,733 visitors from all over the world.

Vassilis Giaskoulidis and Niki Kampa from the Greek Embassy in Oslo; Kyriakos Kotsoglou and Emmanouil Volimakis from the Region of Crete; Pavlos Mourmas, head of the GNTO office in Scandinavia; Giannis Barbadonis from Hellasspesialisten.

According to GNTO, the fair’s visitors expressed interest in destinations of mainland Greece that offer easy access to the sea; the country’s nature, and locations that are accessible by train.

During the event, the organization’s representatives in Scandinavia met with executives of local tourism agencies including Hellas Spesialisten, as well as Norwegian tour operator Jomfrureiser that is offering alternative activities such as yoga and hiking. Jomfrureiser’s executives expressed interest in Greece’s thermal springs.

In addition, GNTO executives met representatives of Norwegian tourism magazines, such as Reis and Reiselyst, as well as TV networks with the aim to promote Greece’s destinations and gastronomy.
