According to data released by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA), during January – December 2019 the number of flights increased by 3.7 percent and reached 538,956 against 519,548 during the same period in 2018. The number of domestic flights reached a total of 213,098 while international flights reached 325,858. Photo source: HCAA The airport with the highest growth rate of passenger traffic during the 12-month period was Ioannina with a 23 percent increase, as it handled 134,011 passengers. Naxos Airport followed with a 21 percent passenger traffic growth rate and Kalamata Airport with a 20.3 percent increase. December 2019 In December alone, 2.5 million passengers passed through Greek airports (domestic and international), a total increase of 3.9 percent compared to the same month in 2018. The top 5 airports in Greece that received the most passengers in December were those of Athens with 1.67 million passengers, Thessaloniki with 449,376, Heraklion with 111,014, Rhodes with 56,258 and Chania with 55,476.
