According to an announcement, the missing link between Lamia and Xyniada will complete the Southern part of the E65 motorway, thus connecting the regions of Central Greece and Western Thessaly to the core motorway network. The motorway is expected to promote the economic, cultural and tourism development of Central Greece and Thessaly, creating jobs and raising incomes in the region. The city of Lamia. Greek citizens, businesses and tourists will all benefit from the new connection,” Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, Elisa Ferreira, said. The Lamia-Xyniada section of the motorway is scheduled to become operational in December 2021. The EU’s Cohesion Fund is aimed at Member States whose Gross National Income (GNI) per inhabitant is less than 90 % of the EU average. It aims to reduce economic and social disparities and to promote sustainable development.
