ANEK Lines Supports Crete’s Young Athletes

Greek passenger shipping company ANEK Lines recently hosted a conference titled, “Supporting Young Athletes: Exercise, Psychology and Nutrition”, in its conference center in Chania, Crete.

Held on January 11, the event was organized by the Chania Sailing Club and aimed to offer valuable information to young athletes, their parents and coaches, as well as to the Club’s members.

During the conference, discussions focused on the demanding schedule of young student athletes.

Champion Apostolos Papastamou, Physical Education Professor Maria Psychountaki, Physical Education Professor Charis Tsolakis, Nutritionist Natasa Kolombotsou, Coach and Physical Education Professor Konstantinos Tsilivakis.

According to Physical Education and Sport Sciences Professor Charis Tsolakis, the family’s contribution to psychology and nutrition, together with a balanced daily routine, constitutes the base for raising healthy student athletes.

On her part, Dietitian and Nutritionist Natasa Kolombotsou referred to the significance of nutrition and the advantages of the Mediterranean diet.

Furthermore, Maria Psichountaki, professor of physical education, spoke about the significance of sports psychology and stress management.

“ANEK Lines cares for tomorrow’s athletes while consistently contributing to initiatives that aim to offer reliable information and convey knowledge,” the company said in an announcement.

“By supporting the ideals of sports and the efforts of local clubs, the company actively participates in raising future champions and sets the base for the development of their skills.”

The conference was held under the scientific supervision of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the collaboration of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
