Syros island, Greece

Animasyros, the annual international festival dedicated to the art of animation, in September will return to the Greek island of Syros for its 13th edition and a focus on the UK animation market.

Scheduled to take place during September 23-27, under the theme “Animation is great!”, the festival will host a tribute to the UK’s animation scene which has influenced many artists around the world including Japanese animator, filmmaker and manga artist Hayao Miyazaki, and his 2004 film “Howl’s Moving Castle”.

The tribute will include significant feature-films and present innovative young creators.

Animasyros this year has partnered with the International Animation Film Market (MIFA), which is part of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, the world’s top reference for animation films.

The two organizations, during the festival’s “Agora” section, will hold a four-day pitch coaching workshop in Athens and on Syros for animators and teachers from Greece and the UK. The winning project will be presented during the MIFA pitches at the Annecy Festival 2021.

Czech Republic, Mexico honored countries of Animasyros

In its 13th year, Animasyros will honor the Czech Republic in cooperation with the Czech Film Center, and Mexico in cooperation with the Embassy of Mexico.

The festival will include four competitions: The International and Student Short Films and Feature Films (Audience Award), and the European Values Award #ThisIsEU – European Commission Representative Award.

Furthermore, Animasyros will feature thematic panoramas of films that will not compete (International, Student & Greek Panoramas, K.DI.S.).

The deadline for submissions is on June 30. For more information visit the website www.animasyros.gr.

Animasyros is co-organized by the Municipality of Syros – Ermoupolis and the South Aegean Region.
