Named “Via Egnatia”, the new app will aim to promote Macedonia and Thrace as tourism destinations and offer information on archaeological sites and monuments, as well as where travelers can sample local products. “The new app will offer visitors entering Greece, from the east or the west, the chance to discover the region’s sites of interest,” Deputy Interior Minister for Macedonia and Thrace Theodoros Karaoglou said during a recent meeting with local authorities. The Interior Ministry is coordinating the project and will soon set up a working group to form a memorandum of cooperation and identify the project’s stakeholders by February 15. “We are optimistic. Our aim is to complete the ‘Via Egnatia’ project within the year,” Karaoglou added. The working group will also determine the project’s cost and financing options, which may include funding from national and European programs or private resources.
