A wax statue of Hollywood actor Tom Cruise was recently unveiled at the Wax Museum of Theodoros Kokkinidis, located in the village of Kipia near the northern Greek city of Kavala. Established in 2010, the museum includes a wide collection of wax figures depicting popular artists such as Madonna, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston and Maria Callas, as well as Greeks Aliki Vougiouklaki, Mikis Theodorakis, Odysseas Elytis and Yiannis Tsarouchis. The wax statue of Tom Cruise was added to the museum’s collection a few days ago. It is the 30th figure created by 43-year-old Thodoros Kokkinidis, founder of the museum. “Creating a [wax] sculpture requires a lot of patience, research and observation, especially when working without a model. The degree of difficulty increases when the ‘portrait’ is smiling,” Kokkinidis said in a social media post. Theodoros Kokkinidis To complete the sculpture, Kokkinidis worked with dentist Antonis Karagiannidis and his associate Vicky Marinopoulou, as well as with Athina Panagiotidou who is responsible for the statue’s hairstyle. Apart from singers, painters and composers, the Wax museum of Theodoros Kokkinidis also includes figures of prominent personalities from the fields of politics, entrepreneurship and sports. The museum is open daily from 10am – 6pm from October – May and from 10am – 8pm during June – September. For more information visit the website, www.kerinaomoiomata.gr.
