Exchanging knowhow and best practices, jointly organizing cultural events and festivals, as well as the participation of Cyprus in the Bicentennial Initiative 1821-2021 marking 200 years of Greek independence, topped the agenda of talks this week between Greek Culture Minister Lina Mendoni and her Cypriot counterpart Prodromos Prodromou. Prodromou said Cyprus was interested in participating in the 1821-2021 bicentennial celebrations with a series of events, adding that a committee was already being set up in this direction with the aim to raise awareness of the country’s role in the revolution. On her part Mendoni welcomed Prodromou’s suggestions and agreed to share material and support. Kourion Theatre, Limmasol. Prodromou went on to add that the Cypriot ministry was aiming to draw up a comprehensive cultural policy for Cyprus, as well as look into ways to link culture with tourism. Mendoni underlined the importance of an archaeological law and suggested offering knowhow in that direction. The two sides also agreed to sign a memorandum of cooperation on the organization of festivals in both countries with Prodromou committing to send a draft in the near future.
