Aiming to upgrade services, facilitate travel, and streamline revenues, the Greek Federation of Urban Transport (POAS) announced this week that it would move ahead with the installation of an integrated e-ticketing system initially at 32 regional intercity (KTEL) stations.

A total of 745,023 euros has been set aside for the project which includes rolling out the infrastructure, digitalization, and database management software licensing.

The same will apply to Athens and Thessaloniki KTEL bus services.

KTEL services provide intercity public transport, handling more than 80 percent of all passenger transportation in Greece.

The country’s intercity bus system has been implementing a much-needed overhaul, including introducing in 2018 an airport-style bar-code tagging and luggage identification system at 63 KTEL ticket stations.
