Further education, research, and scientific support to ensure the high level of tourism professionals and the sustainable future of the sector are at the center of a memorandum of cooperation inked this week between the Hellenic Hoteliers Federation (POX) and the Greek Federation of Hotel Managers (PODIX). Addressing the PODIX general assembly, POX President Grigoris Tasios and PODIX chief George Pelekanakis said the agreement was aimed at fostering the conditions that would produce the next generation of tourism professionals who will be able to meet the constantly changing demands and perceptions of the tourism market and its products. To achieve this, existing as well the next generation of tourism professionals will be required to get appropriate training and specialization that will create career opportunities for them while contributing to the further development of the sector. The collaboration between the two bodies will include the joint organization of educational events, seminars, workshops, conferences as well as the drawing up proposals to be presented to government authorities. “Such joint initiatives demonstrate that we have a common understanding of the sustainability of our tourism product,” said Tasios, adding that the two bodies worked together to “keep Greece upright during the crisis”, gaining valuable experience and making the relationship even stronger. Pelekanakis underlined the importance of academic and research teams working together to develop studies that will contribute to the formulation of innovative proposals that will improve the quality of services provided at Greek hotels. “The new era requires a high level of professionalism and constant training in order to remain competitive,” he said.
