Greek airline company AEGEAN on Wednesday unveiled a brand new livery on the carrier’s new state-of-the-art Airbus A320neo aircraft.

The unveiling came during a special event held by the company to present the delivery of its first three new Airbus A320neo aircraft, powered by Pratt & Whitney engines.

Accompanied by the tagline “Welcome to AEGEAN’s neo era” – and the words harmony, balance, simplicity, symmetry, ethos and Greek spirit – the curtain was raised and the carrier’s new livery was revealed to a packed hall that included Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, tourism and aviation professionals and the media.

The new livery features a harmonious combination of the colors that represent AEGEAN’s Greek identity.

“Today marks the transition to a new era marked by AEGEAN’s new corporate identity… Now in our third decade, we will continue to invest and strive to deserve the confidence of our passengers, to operate responsibly with respect to the environment and to provide opportunities for our employees to evolve,” said AEGEAN Chairman Eftichios Vassilakis.

“With a new image that sends forth values such as Greekness, hospitality and credibility, we aspire for our new fleet to function as a vehicle of our heritage and also as a symbol of a new dynamic, a new creative starting point for the country,” Vassilakis added.

The new aircraft are the first of a total order of a minimum of 46 aircraft of the A320neo family (with the option for 12 additional aircraft) that AEGEAN expects to receive by the end of 2024 and is valued at some $6 billion in list prices.

During the event, Greek PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis highlighted the value of AEGEAN’s investment for Greece.

“A Greek company is carrying out the largest private investment ever made in the aviation sector and one of the largest private investments ever made in the country,” the Greek PM said.

“The government actively encourages businesses that are focused on cutting-edge technologies, respect their human resources and follow the requirements of green growth,” PM Mitsotakis added.

Powered up by the advanced Pratt & Whitney GTF engines, AEGEAN’s new A320neo aircraft will contribute to a substantial reduction of CO2 and NOx emissions levels per flight and passenger flown, while also significantly lowering the noise footprint.

The reduced fuel consumption is expected to enhance AEGEAN’s competitiveness, as well as to offer range extension and enable the company to fly to new destinations.

On his part, AEGEAN’s CEO Dimitris Gerogiannis referred to the importance of the investment, underlining the company’s commitment to continuous development.

“2020 brings us a new beginning, with new dynamics, new possibilities and a new image. The next 24 months will be extremely creative months in developing services and programs,” he said.

According to Gerogiannis, the annual contribution from every new additional aircraft will be 100,000 new incoming tourists, 80 million euros in direct revenues from tourism and 70 direct jobs.

Starting in 2020 and within the next six years, AEGEAN will have invested $500 million annually in expanding and modernizing its fleet. By July 2020, AEGEAN is expected to receive another three new aicraft (bringing the number of received planes this year to a total of 6), forming a fleet of 65 aircraft, adding 1.5 million seats (19 million seats per year) and supporting the development of its network of 155 destinations in total and 44 countries in 2020.

AEGEAN’s new aircraft will begin operating this month, with the first serving its first Athens-Munich flight on Friday, February 14.

AEGEAN is a member of Star Alliance.
