Air China is suspending its direct flights between Athens and Beijing from February 17 until March 18 due to the 2019-novel coronavirus outbreak.

According to media reports, the measure is being taken as a precaution to stem the coronavirus outbreak and ensure the safety of passengers.

“The reason is public safety because of the coronavirus and there are operational reasons as well,” an officer at the airline’s Athens office was reported to have said.

There have been no confirmed cases of coronavirus in Greece so far, but health authorities are on full alert.

Air China launched the direct service between the two cities in September 2017. Today it conducts the route three times a week.
