Belgian travelers are adding Greece to their list of destinations for 2020, as early bookings are showing an upward trend, driven by the rise of direct flights between the two countries, the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) said on Friday.

The organization recently participated in the 62nd international tourism exhibition “Salon des Vacances 2020” that took place in Brussels during February 6-9.

According to the GNTO, the significant increase in seat capacity to Greece, including Transavia’s recent decision to add three weekly flights to its schedule from April 2, connecting Brussels with Corfu, Thessaloniki and Heraklion, Crete, is expected to bring positive results, following the collapse of the Thomas Cook Belgium – Brussels Airlines deal.

The GNTO participated in “Salon des Vacances” with its own stand and hosted a number of Greek regions, including Crete, the South and North Aegean, Attica, the Ionian Islands, regional tourism organizations, municipalities and various hotels.

The city of Chania on Crete was the honored destination for 2020. Its tourism offerings were presented to Belgian tour operators, journalists and bloggers during an event held by the GNTO in collaboration with the Region of Crete, Ryanair and the Charleroi airport.

Furthermore, on the sidelines of the expo, the GNTO office in The Netherlands held a special event to promote Attica and the Saronic islands.

“Salon des Vacances” this year hosted 350 exhibitors, 800 destinations, 162 media representatives and over 93,000 visitors.
