Stressing the importance of developing marine tourism with emphasis on sustainability, Vernicos Yachts President George Vernicos welcomed government officials, shipping and marine tourism representatives and stakeholders for the customary New Year pita-cutting ceremony held at the Yacht Club of Greece (NOE) recently.

Vernicos Yachts celebrated 45 years of activity, with its founder who is also the president of the Economic and Social Council of Greece, referring to initiatives and actions that must be taken in the immediate future to solidify Greece’s leading role in marine tourism and shipping.

Development & Investments Minister Adonis Georgiadis referred to the company’s contribution to the Greek economy, with similar messages conveyed by Piraeus Mayor Yannis Moralis, Tourism Minister Harry Theoharis, and Shipping Minister Yiannis Plakiotakis, among others.

Addressing the event, Vernicos referred to the potential of Greece’s marine tourism segment with a focus on yachting tourism.

Key challenges include effectively addressing Turkey’s claims in the Aegean Sea, safeguarding sea borders, ensuring safety at sea, curbing illegal activity, and taxation.

He went on to underline the importance of developing the Alimos Marina and foreseeing that professionals making a living from yacht charters have access to the best services.

Also important for Vernicos is implementing sustainable practices and initiatives in order to protect the country’s marine environment.
