Promoting Greek products and the Mediterranean Diet is the best way to develop gastronomic tourism in Attica, said Regional Governor George Patoulis during the 7th EXPOTROF – Greek Fine Food Exhibition held in Athens recently.

In this direction, Patoulis announced the creation of an online platform which will promote Attica’s food products to foreign markets, as well as focus on boosting extroversion through participation in exhibitions and major international events.

He added that another initiative in the pipeline is the establishment of a school of tourism professions and gastronomy.

Patoulis also pledged to support the creation or development of old wineries, mills, and beekeeping units into food and gastronomy-related museums with the aim to highlight Attica’s important historic and cultural contribution.

Key to achieving the targets set include raising awareness about the Mediterranean Diet, acknowledged internationally as one of the heathiest in the world, as well as supporting exports and Attica’s primary sector.

“This is also our challenge in Attica, to showcase its gastronomic wealth… to promote and spread the word about our gastronomic heritage and products that have been universally recognized as products promoting health, wellness, and longevity.”

More than 350 producers showcased over 3,000 Greek food items at this year’s EXPOTROF, which featured Crete as the honoured country.
