Lipsi, a cluster of tiny islands in the Dodecanese, is among the Greek destinations featured for its long history and traditions, in the online edition of Euronews.

Sponsored by the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) and written by travel reporter Anthony Grand, Euronews.com’s feature “Greek islands of history and culture” unveils the secrets of Mykonos, Delos, Syros, Tinos, Patmos, Lipsi, Karpathos, Kos and Crete.

“The [Greek] archipelago is varied and vast, and Greece’s rich seafaring past means that from Corfu to Crete by way of Mykonos, Patmos, Karpathos and many more there is a veritable tapestry of history and culture to discover,” Grand says.

“The eastern reaches of the Aegean Sea were the crossroads of many civilizations in antiquity from Phoenicians to Mycenaeans to Athenians by way of Romans, Crusaders, Arabs, Venetians, and more… ”

Grand adds that travelers flock to Lipsi, the mythical island of Kalypso, every August for the feast of Panagia tou Harou to pay their respects to the miraculous icon in the church of the same name.

“The traditional feast starts with the Vespers on the beaches and the two big squares and continues for 24 hours,” he adds.

Lipsi are located north of Leros and east of Patmos. The complex includes 24 small islands and six rocky islets.

Euronews’ feature was published after a press trip, organized by the Municipality of Lipsi.
