Chania is the former Minoan city of Kydonia, that took its name from its founder Kydon. Minoan Lines CEO Antonis Maniadakis and Crete Vice Governor Nikolaos Kalogeris cut the ribbon of the new “Kydon Palace” cruise ferry. Vice Governor Nikolaos Kalogeris baptized the new ship and wished for “calm seas and fair winds”, while underlining the need to upgrade transportation services in Chania. Kalogeris also wished for the new ship to contribute to the development and prosperity of the greater region. Furthermore, he referred to the significance of the government’s “transport equivalent” measure and asked for its implementation on Crete. The event also included the new ship’s blessing by Metropolitan Damaskinos of Kydonia and Apokoronas. The event was held in the presence of state officials, local authorities and tourism professionals. The eco-friendly “Kydon Palace” is the newest, fastest luxury ferry on the Chania route, offering a high level of onboard services, luxury, comfort and a unique travel experience to passengers, as well as quality transport for vehicles and cargo. “’Kydon Palace” was built in Genoa, Italy under my responsibility. Together with her three sister-ships, they are the fastest passenger-car ferries in the world,” Antonis Maniadakis said.
