Minoan Lines officially named its new cruise ferry, “Kydon Palace”, that serves the Piraeus – Chania route, during a christening ceremony held recently at the port of Souda in Chania, Crete.

“Our company honors Chania and their history by dedicating this beautiful ship to this city, which – in my opinion, is the most beautiful in Greece,” Minoan Lines CEO Antonis Maniadakis said during the event.

Chania is the former Minoan city of Kydonia, that took its name from its founder Kydon.

Vice Governor Nikolaos Kalogeris baptized the new ship and wished for “calm seas and fair winds”, while underlining the need to upgrade transportation services in Chania.

Kalogeris also wished for the new ship to contribute to the development and prosperity of the greater region.

Furthermore, he referred to the significance of the government’s “transport equivalent” measure and asked for its implementation on Crete.

The event also included the new ship’s blessing by Metropolitan Damaskinos of Kydonia and Apokoronas.

The eco-friendly “Kydon Palace” is the newest, fastest luxury ferry on the Chania route, offering a high level of onboard services, luxury, comfort and a unique travel experience to passengers, as well as quality transport for vehicles and cargo.

“’Kydon Palace” was built in Genoa, Italy under my responsibility. Together with her three sister-ships, they are the fastest passenger-car ferries in the world,” Antonis Maniadakis said.

The ferry departs from Piraeus at 4pm and returns from the port of Souda in Chania at 11.59pm.
