Northern Greece Thessaloniki’s Pier VI Extension Project Attracts Seven Suitors by GTP editing team 25 February 2020 written by GTP editing team 25 February 2020 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 19 Photo source: Thessaloniki Port Authority A project for the extension of Thessaloniki’s sixth pier as well as additional infrastructure works facilitating its operation has attracted the interest of seven companies/consortia from Greece, France, Belgium, Italy, and Portugal in the first phase of the tender. More specifically, the entities that have expressed interest in undertaking the project are: Eifagee-Terna; Archirodon; Intrakat – Vittadello – Sales; Mytilineos SA – Rover Maritime SL – XDK SA; Avax SA– Etermar SA – NV Besix SA; Aktor SA – Tekal SA; Acciona Construccion. Interested parties will be invited after the assessment phase to set be completed by the end of March, to submit binding offers during the second phase of the tender tentatively set for April 2020. According to the ThPA’s tender announcement, the winning contractor will be required to construct a port extension, additional ground space/wall to the platforms, shipping lane dredging and manoeuvre area, as well as and communication networks and services. The project, budgeted at around 130 million euros to be completed within 46 months of the deal approval is aimed at upgrading the port so that it can cater to the needs of larger vessels in terms of depth and capacity, improving at the same time its role and establishing it as a trade hub in the wider area. The port works are part of the Thessaloniki Port Authority’s (ThPA) obligations as stated by its agreement with the state. Thessaloniki’s port is Greece’s second largest container port, privatized in 2018. Once the upgrade works are completed it be able to stand up against competing ports in terms of size and capacity.
