Event News Greece 1821-2021 Bicentennial Events: Call for Proposals by GTP editing team 27 February 2020 written by GTP editing team 27 February 2020 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 17 Interested parties wishing to participate in the bicentennial Greece 1821-2021 events are invited to submit proposals on its online platform, the organizing committee announced this week during its second plenary session held at the Benaki Museum. “We want actions that will endure, that will leave a positive imprint on our country, a reserve for the future,” said Greece 2021 Committee Chair Gianna Angelopoulos-Daskalaki. Addressing committee members, she referred to actions taken so far which include contacting 322 municipal and 13 regional authorities as well as visits to Nafplio and Messolongi. Greece 2021 Committee Chair Gianna Angelopoulos-Daskalaki The events marking the 200-year anniversary since Greece’s independence will focus on four key areas, Angelopoulos-Daskalaki said: 1821: Greece and the World – to shed light on the Greek Revolution and its historic importance and impact as well as its connection to other revolutions in that time.Greece Today – 200 Years Later: will explore the dynamic of the modern Greek state.Greeks Who Left their Mark on the World – will cast the spotlight on the life and work of celebrated Greeks at home and abroad,2021: Window to a Greece of the Future: will focus on Greece’s prospects and on the future Greeks envision for their country. Angelopoulos-Daskalaki, who also headed the 2004 Athens Olympics organizing committee, made it clear that the Greece 2021 events will not be funded by the state but through donations and sponsorships. The Greece 1821-2021 bicentennial events mark the 200 years since Greece revolted against 400 years of Ottoman Turkish domination (since 1453) that led to the declaration of independence and the creation of the first modern Greek state.
