According to an announcement, the municipality is using the latest safety standards in its aim to transform the playgrounds into beautiful, safe and operational environments for children and families, also offering full access to kids with mobility impairments. The first phase of the project, which is carried out by the City of Athens Culture, Sports and Youth Organization (OPANDA), includes the revamp of seven playgrounds in Athens’ sixth and seventh municipal districts. Works are currently underway at playgrounds located at: Konopisopoulou & Gennimata streets – Heropoulou Square, Ampelokipi Dilou & Papadiamantopoulou streets – Children’s Hospital P. & A. Kyriakou Agios Thomas Square, Goudi Paloumpioti Square, Polygono Kalvou & Degleri streets, Ampelokipi L. Riankour & Geroulanou streets – Sofia Vembo Square, Ampelokipi Metaneiras & Paraskeva streets, Ano Kipseli The municipality’s plan includes the overhaul of 12 more playgrounds in the following neighborhoods: Pytheou & Geometrou streets, Kynosargous – L. Lambraki Fotomara st. & Christianoupolis Square, Kynosargous Ergatikis Protomagia square, Rouf Spyrou Patsi street, Votanikos Pantazopoulou Square, Kolonos Pandionos & Saronos, Patisia Christianopouleos & Thyssou streets, Rizoupoli Taygetou street, Grava Minaidi Iakovaton st., Kato Patisia Georgoula & Papachristoforou streets- Gialourou Hill, Polygono Megistis, Kythiron & Anafis streets, Ano Kipseli Orion & Evriklidou streets, Ano Kipseli According to Athens Mayor Kostas Bakoyannis, it is very important for the Greek capital to have modern, safe and operational playgrounds that will improve everyday life in the city. “These are works that will put a smile back on the faces of children and allow citizens to enjoy their city,” the mayor said. OPANDA is responsible for the maintenance, cleanliness and safety of the playgrounds of teh municipality.
