Covid-19 Guidance on Travel-Related Issues SETE Proposes Hotel Cancellation Fee Waivers in View of Covid-19 by GTP editing team 4 March 2020 written by GTP editing team 4 March 2020 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 26 Photo: GTP The Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE) is proposing a flexible cancellation policy for hotels in efforts to limit the impact and to maintain trust in the Greek hospitality sector in the aftermath of the coronavirus outbreak. “The impact that the coronavirus outbreak on global tourism is beginning to be felt in Greece as well,” said SETE in a statement, adding that it is vital that Greece protect its reputation. “At this point in time, a series of initiatives is needed to help limit the impact on tourism, which is the main driver of the Greek economy. Given the decline in travel internationally, concrete actions are needed to facilitate or even encourage public decision-making. This, in conjunction with similar policies from other tourism-related sectors, can help maintain and encourage bookings,” SETE said. As a first step SETE suggests the following cancellation policy to apply to individual or group bookings made for stays up to 31 May 2020: – Seasonal accommodation facilities or resorts: free cancellation seven days before arrival; advance payment will be refunded, – Accommodation facilities in city centers (urban): free cancellation 24 hours prior to arrival; advance payment will be refunded, – Tourist accommodation facilities in rural or mountain areas: free cancellation 48 hours prior to arrival; advance payment will be refunded. Meanwhile, SETE said it was working to organize meetings with Europe’s largest tour operators so as to exchange views and agree on damage control actions.
