Priorities discussed by Deputy Citizen Protection Minister Lefteris Economou, Deputy Tourism Minister Manos Konsolas, as well as by defence ministry and police officials include bolstering police presence at passport control points at airports, ports, and borders across the country; stepping up inspections on issues of tourism legislation compliance with regard to illegal tourist guide, accommodation or transport services; and revising and implementing road safety measures at popular tourist destinations. The ministry officials also discussed the need to hire additional staff for police departments on the islands during the summer, as well as the provision of additional patrol cars and backup support. A follow-up joint ministerial meeting on tourism-related safety issues is scheduled to take place in the coming period.
