Photo source: @MargSchinas Greek Tourism Minister Harry Theoharis on Thursday briefed European Commission Vice President Margaritis Schinas on the impact the coronavirus (COVID-19) has had on Greek tourism so far. Their meeting took place on the sidelines of the Lighting Ceremony of the Olympic Flame in Ancient Olympia. According to an announcement by the Tourism Ministry, Theocharis informed Commissioner Schinas on the initiatives the ministry intends to take in the interest of European institutions to mitigate the effects of the health crisis, but mainly to prepare for “the day after”. The initiatives will be taken in cooperation with the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Theoharis informed. On his part, Schinas, who is the Commission’s VP in charge of promoting the European Way of Life, noted that the coordination of actions would bring the desired results. Minister Theoharis and Commissioner Schinas agreed to be in frequent contact. Earlier on Thursday, the Greek Tourism Ministry announced that its crisis management team, formed to monitor all developments concerning the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak in Greece, was on high alert and has an open line of communication for tourism bodies, businesses, and market representatives.
