The Greek Foreign Ministry on Tuesday issued guidelines for all travel in and out of Greece in view of international actions to contain the spread of Covid-19.

More specifically, the foreign ministry advises against travel to countries with high coronavirus infection rates where measures are constantly being revised and which often include travel bans.

The ministry is also advising Greeks currently abroad to keep up to date with measures implemented by third countries with regard to the coronavirus and through Greek consulate services and their relevant websites.

In case of emergency, the ministry advises contacting Greek authorities and the foreign ministry’s Crisis Management Unit. It should be reminded that travel from or into Greece from Albania, Italy, North Macedonia and Spain has currently been suspended. It should also be noted that the Greek government has since March 16 implemented a 14-day self-quarantine period for all persons entering Greece, regardless of nationality or country of origin with fines for those who violating the law.

Aiming to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, EU leaders on Tuesday announced the closure of the bloc’s external borders, banning non-essential travel from third countries for 30 days.

Greece closed its borders to all non-EU nationals as of 6am on Wednesday.
