Alonissos Gives Covid-19 Info in Four Languages

The Municipality of Alonissos has launched a new brochure with useful information on the coronavirus pandemic, for the island’s residents and visitors. The new brochure is in four languages: English, Greek, Italian and German.

With the distribution of the new brochure, the municipality also aims to inform individuals that return to the island about its new “Stay home -keep Alonissos healthy” social service, which supports the elderly, vulnerable groups, as well as Greeks and foreigners that have arrived on Alonissos during the previous weeks and are obliged to remain in self-quarantine for 14 days.

Furthermore, since the Alonissos Regional Medical Center is unable to provide healthcare to COVID-19 cases, the brochure informs vulnerable groups about their options in case they need to receive pharmaceutical materials and groceries, and issue certificates and other documents.

In addition, the municipality has been using the interactive Novoville application for smartphones in order to keep citizens informed, as well as receive requests and offer online services. The Novoville application is available for free on Apple iOS and Google Play systems, while users can send real-time requests on everyday problems or extraordinary events with no charge.

In efforts to curb the spread of COVID-19, the Alonissos Municipality has also established a social policy committee to offer social care services.

The municipality’s measures follow the decision of Greek authorities to tighten restrictions for ferry travel, allowing travel only to permanent island residents and to those wishing to return to Athens.

“This is an unprecedented global crisis… We are here, organizing new initiatives for the common good… and the residents of the island,” Alonissos Mayor Petros Vafinis said.
