The Greek Tourism Ministry on Thursday announced 268 hotels in Greece that have been allowed to remain open to cover specific accommodation needs, such as hosting medical personnel, during the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

The hotels in question are excluded from a government decision that has temporarily sealed the country’s year-round hotels in order to limit the spread of the coronavirus in the country.

The Greek hotels that have been excluded from the ban are allowed to offer accommodation to:
– armed and security forces,
– medical, nursing or healthcare personnel,
– personnel of the European Union and other international organizations,
– individuals that have been impacted due to natural disasters,
– asylum seekers or refugees
– foreign students studying in Greece
– Greek education staff that are located elsewhere than their permanent residence.

The list of 268 hotels in Greece that have been allowed to remain open to cover special accommodation needs can be found (in Greek) here.

All other year-round hotels in Greece have been shut since Monday with the exception of 50 units – one accommodation unit per regional capital – that have been kept open for commercial reasons. Three facilities are allowed to operate in the municipalities of Athens and Thessaloniki. The list of 50 open hotels can be found here.

Greece is currently in a national lockdown – through to April 6 – in efforts to contain the spread of Covid-19, which has thus far infected 892 people and left 26 dead.
