The Athens-based Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF) announced that it would be contributing 100 million dollars to global relief efforts aimed at addressing the effects of the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

In this direction, the SNF announced a grant of 3 million dollars to The Rockefeller University in New York City, to go towards medical research focused on effective testing, treatment, and prevention related to Covid-19.

In Greece, the SNF is pouring 450 million dollars into the construction of three new hospitals, emergency and diagnostic equipment, trauma care training, nursing education, and infectious disease training.

In addition, SNF is seeking ways to address the growing needs of frontline hospital and health care workers in the near and long term.

At the same time, the SNF will work with public and private entities and grantee partners to promote physical wellbeing, mental health, and socioeconomic welfare. More specifically, such initiatives include ensuring food security for people in need while cooperating with international organizations to offer psychological and social support.

“SNF considers it our duty to do whatever we can to help alleviate the impacts of Covid-19 and support those on the front lines of the fight.

We will keep listening and responding to the evolving needs of our grantee partners as they continue their critical work under these difficult conditions, and we will support them to the best of our ability,” said SNF co-president Andreas Dracopoulos.
