The “Trekking: Life is an adventure” e-guide offers information on the geographic location of each mapped route and its signage, as well as on the distances and altitudes. Furthermore, it offers a detailed road book for every route, and many photos of the natural landscape. The Aristotle Municipality is named after the ancient philosopher Aristotle, whose birthplace, Stagira, lies within its bounds. It is located at the foot of three mountains that are part of the Natura 2000 network of protected areas. The area’s hiking and cycling routes cover a total of 141 kilometers and are surrounded by three mountains – Aristotelian, Holomontas, and Athos – and three water bays. It also includes popular archaeological sites such as Ancient Stagira, Ancient Akanthos, the Xerxes Canal and the Sanctuary of Ancient Ouranoupolis. According to the municipality, many tourism agencies have designed and offer special packages for trekking and cycling activities in eastern Halkidiki. The e-guide will be presented to foreign trekking specialists during a special fam trip to be organized by the municipality, after the coronavirus crisis subsides, in collaboration with the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO). The Aristotle Municipality was recently awarded the “Bike Friendly” seal by NATTOUR, a non-profit organization promoting sustainable tourism practices, and is working towards receiving a certification by the German hiking association “Deutscher Wanderverband Service GmbH” for its “Aristotelian Walk”. The e-guide is available here. Join the 15,000+ travel executives who read our newsletter Follow GTP Headlines on Google News to keep up to date with all the latest on tourism and travel in Greece.
