An initiative by the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels (HCH), Capsule T launched last year on April 10 to support and promote Greek technology startups for tourism and hospitality and boost synergies to bring innovation to the country’s tourism sector. For its first anniversary, Capsule T held an online birthday event hosted by CapsuleT Director Katerina Saridaki and “attended” by Greek Tourism Minister Harry Theoharis, HCH President Alexandros Vassilikos, representatives of tourism startups from both cycles and mentors. Despite Greece’s lockdown to prevent the spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19), Capsule T Travel & Hospitality Accelerator is still continuing exactly what it started a year ago. Capsule T’s first acceleration cycle, which was deemed a success, offered a significant number of workshops, countless hours of mentoring to startup teams by specialized mentors, and many on-site visits to hotels and travel agencies in Athens and other destinations. With the constant support of the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels and having adapted to the current situation, Capsule T has already launched its second cycle Making plans for “the next day” in tourism Due to the Covid-19 lockdown in Greece, all workshops are carried out online through special digital platforms. The mentoring program also takes place normally through telephone or online contact of the representatives of the 10 groups with the mentors assigned to them. “CapsuleT, now more than ever, brings all stakeholders together, actively encouraging and motivating synergies between them, to make them all the more effective in the market, but also to create new ideas and proposals that will focus on the current conditions to even compete in current worldwide competitions, such as that of the UNWTO,” an announcement by CapsuleT said. Aiming to provide the best solutions to the Greek tourism market, CapsuleT plans for 2020 to cooperate and be included under the umbrella of the UNWTO’s international programs for young entrepreneurs. Moreover, CapsuleT and the Hellenic Chamber of Hotels will submit proposals to Greek ministries in order to attract more support to tourism startups and their efforts to offer innovative solutions to the industry.
