The Technical University of Crete and the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania will be teaming up with the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) to contribute towards the formulation of a tourism strategy that will be implemented after the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic subsides. The two educational bodies will be collecting data and carrying out relevant research on the coronavirus repercussions worldwide as well as in Greece. At the same time, studies will also focus on the impact of Covid-19 on tourism, sustainable tourism solutions and traveler trends. The data will then be assessed by the GNTO. GNTO Secretary General Dimitris Fragakis held a conference call with the scientific teams of both Crete-based institutions and discussed the consequences of the coronavirus crisis on this year’s tourism season, response and actions taken by other European countries in the midst of the pandemic, and progress made week by week. “We’ve already begun preparing for the next day. To be more effective in approaching foreign markets, we need scientific data and reliable analyses. Ways our source markets in Europe are dealing with the pandemic interest us and are just as important as our handling of the crisis,” said Fragakis. He went on to add that the data collected and relevant analyses will be used toward the formulation of an international promotional scheme to be implemented in the upcoming period.
