Almost half of the Greeks will go on holiday this summer after the COVID-19 travel restrictions are lifted, an online survey conducted by MARLAB, the marketing lab of the University Macedonia, indicates.

The survey conducted 840 online interviews to consumers during April 23-25.

According to the results, 47 percent of Greek citizens plan to take a vacation this year, with 65 percent already making travel plans for August.

The vast majority – 90 percent – of those who will go holiday, chooses Greece as a summer destination; 7 percent plans to travel to Greece and abroad, while only 3 percent will travel exclusively abroad.

The duration of holidays ranges from 4 to 20 days.

The survey also showed that out of those that will take some time off, 46 percent would reside in a hotel, 14 percent at a friend’s house, 29 percent at a family or privately-owned summer residence and 19 percent in an Airbnb property.

Also, half of the people interviewed believe they will spend the same amount for their vacation as last year. Forty one percent expects to spend 200-601 euros per person; 35 percent up to 300 euros/person; 15 percent 601-900/person; and 8 percent over 900 euros/person.

Meanwhile, 19 percent of those interviewed by MARLAB said they would not take a holiday in 2020 citing financial reasons (36 percent); the coronavirus pandemic (32 percent) and increased professional obligations (22 percent).

Its very interesting that University of Macedonia MARLAB does not publish any of this data nor make mention to it anywhere on their website. Sounds like a paid poll from the hotel industry to further support their insidious ploy to destroy the STR market. Id be interested to see the actual questions posed to understand the inherent bias of the poll. The reality is, if people are genuinely fearful of catching the virus while on holiday then the last place they should stay is a hotel full of other guests in close proximity. Renting your own home for your summer holiday will mean you can continue to isolate yourself from masses of people, control your environment and be assured that no-one is bringing germs into your space while you are there. The hotel industry is on a mission to destroy individual Greeks’ rights to earn an income from their property. Don’t be fooled by these bogus polls.
