Both Switzerland and Greece are showing an uptick in intra-European travel intent as early as November, according to a study carried out by digital travel solutions provider Sojern. Findings indicate that 87 percent of current flight searches are for travel in the next 11 months to Greece, and 81 percent to Switzerland for travel in either Q2 or Q3. Study analysts note that though the number of bookings are a better sign of travel confidence than searches, the uptick in flight searches are a positive sign that people are still looking for travel far sooner than 2021. Future Flight Bookings to Greece and Switzerland from Regional Origins According to the same data, European travel searches to Greece are up by nearly 18 percent year on year by February 2021. Switzerland is also showing a positive upwards trend for the same period, with its peak in January 2021. The increase in flight bookings from European origins to both Greece and Switzerland in the same period is encouraging analysts say. Future Flight Searches to Greece and Switzerland from Regional Origins The study was carried out on April 27 and based on insights from over 350 million traveler profiles. Overall, flight searches and bookings are down but countries taking steps to lift containment measures are performing better compared to destinations that are still in full lockdown. It should be noted that both Switzerland and Greece are reopening some businesses in the coming week.
