Spain: 14-day Quarantine for All Travelers from Abroad

Spain has announced that travelers coming to the country from abroad will have to self-quarantine for 14 days. The measure has been announced to avoid a resurgence of the Covid-19 virus.

The country’s new Health Ministry order was published on Tuesday in the Official State Gazette (BOE) and will enter into force on May 15. It will apply throughout the extension period of the country’s state of alarm, which is due to end on May 24.

“Sanitary surveillance and hygienic control measures must be intensified for all international travelers in order to avoid the appearance of imported cases,” indicates the BOE.

The Spanish Health Ministry order says that arriving travelers from abroad will have to remain indoors (in their home or accommodation), and only go out to acquire food, pharmaceuticals and basic necessities; attend health centers, services and establishments; and for reasons of force majeure or need. All movements must be carried out with a mask.

Spanish health authorities may contact those in quarantine to monitor them.

Travel agencies, tour operators and transport companies must inform travelers of the measure prior to selling tickets to Spain. Airlines will provide passengers to Spain with a Passenger Location Card that they must have with them when they enter the country.
