Photo Source: HRADF Greek company Aktor Concessions SA finalized on Wednesday, a deal to manage and exploit the Alimos Marina, southern Athens, for a 40-year period, putting forward 57.5 million euros. The value of the agreement is set to reach at least 177 million euros, including an annual concession fee and a share of revenues as a percentage of the marina’s annual turnover. Under the agreement, Aktor Concessions must implement 50 million euros worth of investments over the next five years aimed at upgrading infrastructure in order to establish the marina into top tourist port destination. The Alimos marina competition is the first to be carried out by Greece’s assets fund (HRADF) via e-auction, ensuring complete transparency. Development & Investments Minister Adonis Georgiadis, Finance Minister Christos Staikouras and Tourism Minister Harry Theoharis sign the concession agreement. “This development contributes significantly to the upgrade and promotion of the Athenian Riviera, converting the Alimos Marina into a modern maritime tourism support center. Through the proposed changes, one of the largest marinas in the Eastern Mediterranean and the largest in the Balkans – with 1,100 berths and an area of 210,000m2 – will become a major destination and attract thousands of high-consumption tourists,” said Tourism Minister Harry Theoharis during the signing event on Wednesday, attended by Finance Minister Christos Staikouras, Development & Investments Minister Adonis Georgiadis and HRDAF Executive Chairman Aris Xenofos. Referring to the investment, Georgiadis said it sends a promising message for the development of maritime tourism in Greece with particular focus on Attica. Besides modernizing existing port infrastructure and ship-laying / maintenance services, other activities include the regeneration of the marina’s land area through the construction on 18,500m2 of building facilities as well as the creation of recreational areas, boardwalks, and park areas complete with dining areas, shops, hotel facilities, offices, and playgrounds. “This agreement demonstrates the confidence of the investor community and of the financial system in the positive prospects of the national economy, and especially in our tourism sector, which even today, when its endurance is being tested, is still a key pillar of the Greek economy,” said Xenofos noting that the marina is located in one of the three municipalities to host the ambitious Hellinikon project. “Given the synergies that emerge, the benefits are obvious for both local communities and the country as a whole: new jobs, business opportunities and economic growth,” he said.
