According to an announcement, as of Monday, May 18, the airline will boost frequencies to Heraklion, Chania, Thessaloniki and Alexandroupolis, and then from May 25, to Rhodes, Corfu, Mytilene, Chios, Samos and the remaining destinations of its domestic network. Moreover, by the end of May, AEGEAN will gradually resume its air connections from Athens to the key European destinations of Munich, Zurich, Frankfurt and Geneva. The airline will also increase flights to Brussels. The Athens-Brussels connection was the only route not suspended during lockdown. “AEGEAN intends to gradually and carefully restore its network, in line with the national effort to control the Covid-19 crisis,” the company said, adding that it has cooperated with authorities to contribute to the creation of health protocols for safe travel in Greece. The Greek airline has already stepped up precautionary measures before, during boarding and also during flights. Measures onboard include the frequent cleaning of its cabins and the disinfection of aircraft. AEGEAN has also made it mandatory for all passengers and its crew to wear face masks. The company said that it is ready to adapt to any additional measures, following the announcement of the official health protocols. From March 26 and throughout Greece’s coronavirus lockdown, AEGEAN had maintained its connections with all Greek destinations, in limited frequencies, in order to assist in emergencies and transfer necessary cargo. A small number of weekly flights from Athens to Brussels were also maintained, in order to maintain the country’s connectivity with the EU’s administrative center.
