Greece and Egypt on Tuesday discussed laying the ground for gradual resumption of flights between the two countries in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Greek Tourism Minister Harry Theoharis, during a telephone conversation, agreed with his Egyptian counterpart Dr Khaled Ahmed El-Enany to specialize the measures according to which flights between Greece and Egypt could restart.

The Egyptian minister, who paid an official visit to Athens last February, invited Theoharis to Egypt once travel restrictions are lifted.

It is noted that the two ministers in February had discussed ways to establish a joint tourism cooperation in order to attract more tourists to both countries from long-haul markets.

Greece open for tourism from June 15

Greece is expected to soon release a list of select countries from which air arrivals will be allowed during the post-Covid-19 period. The countries will be selected by Greek health authorities, based on their epidemiological coronavirus profile.

According to Greece’s post-Covid-19 tourism plan, the country will open for tourism as of June 15 (Stage 1) and allow flights from countries with good epidemiological characteristics, to land only at the airports of Athens and Thessaloniki.

On July 1 (Stage 2) Greece will allow flights from abroad to all airports in the country and free entry of visitors from all countries.

Egypt has started easing Covid-19 restrictions and gradually reopening services. The government is proceeding with a “coexistence plan” to maintain anti-coronavirus precautionary measures while resuming economic activities.
