According to an Associated Press report, costs – to include accommodation, food and drink, and coronavirus treatment – will be covered for both patients and their families. The report goes on to add that Cypriot authorities have designated a 100-bed hospital that will host foreign travelers testing positive for Covid-19 while on vacation. The health facility also has 112 intensive care units (ICU) should there be critical incidents. Additionally, authorities have also designated a 500-room hotel to serve as quarantine for patients’ family members and close contacts. The news was announced via a letter sent by Cyprus’ foreign, transport and tourism ministers to governments, airlines and tour operators, and includes additional measures and hygiene protocols implemented by Cypriot authorities to attract tourists. Cyprus will begin accepting international travelers from 19 countries as of June 9. Passengers are required to undergo a Covid-19 test three days ahead of departure. On June 20, tourists from 13 more countries will be allowed into Cyprus. The small island nation has effectively managed to contain the spread of Covid-19 holding one of the lowest coronavirus ratios per capita in Europe.
