EBD’s list is based on various criteria such as the number of people infected by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in the country, the size of the beaches and the number of square meters available for each person on the beach. Monolithi came first among ten other popular beaches in Europe, including Halikounas on the Ionian island of Corfu in fifth place. “Greece is one of the European countries least affected by the coronavirus – up to 50 times less affected than any other European country – and has already taken many safety and health measures to ensure travelers a safe holiday,” the organization said. Monolithi beach, the main beach of Preveza, is 22km (13 miles) long and up to 80 metres wide. “This beach is the longest one in Europe; with its hundreds of thousands of square metres (+1,500,000m²) you won’t have to struggle to get a nice spot, fix your beach umbrella and spend relaxing days in the sun.” Preveza. Halikounas beach, Corfu Halikounas on Corfu, ranks fifth on EBD’s list for its unique natural environment and golden sand. Just 40 minutes by car from Corfu Airport, it is one of the most amazing and largest beaches on Corfu. Located in the southwestern part of the island, Halikounas stretches for several kilometers between the open sea of the northern Ionian and the lake of Korission – a Natura 2000 protected site. It has brown fine golden sand and waves, perfect for sailing and water sports. Halikounas beach, Corfu.
