The 5th Delphi Economic Forum 2020 will kick off next week in a digital form to share insight on the Covid-19 phenomenon and the way it has changed the world.

Titled “The day after”, the four-day virtual summit will broadcast an eight-hour daily program through its digital platform during June 9-12.

The forum will start with the opening speech of the President of the Hellenic Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will also join the forum on June 11 and have a live discussion with historian Niall Ferguson.

Delphi Forum will host over 200 speakers from Greece and abroad, among them European Commissioners Stella Kyriakides (Health and Food Safety), Olivér Várhelyi (Neighborhood and Enlargement), Kadri Simson (Home Affairs) and Vice President of the European Commission Margaritis Schinas.

Other speakers include the President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić, the Prime Minister of Albania Edi Rama, the former Prime Minister of Northern Macedonia Zoran Zaev and US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Matthew Palmer.

The main topics to be discussed during the forum include:

  • Health: The unprecedented challenges on a national and international level; the national health system in the post-Covid-19 era; the issues of digitalization in the health sector; the possibility of a second coronavirus wave in Greece and Europe; the treatment and vaccines for COVID-19.
  • Geopolitical developments: New policies in the European Union; the priorities of the German Presidency; the ways that the pandemic is changing the world; the world trade crisis; geopolitics in the Southeastern Mediterranean, and the gradual integration of Balkan countries into the European Union.
  • Digital reforms in Greece: The role of technological progress in the process of state modernization; tackling unemployment through the development of digital skills and the dual education system; the evolution of competitive development.
  • Economic recovery: The steps for Greece’s rapid economic recovery in the fields of investments, development works and infrastructure, energy, education, tourism, and agriculture.

The forum’s agenda will also include discussions on climate change, illegal migration, the future of urban development in the post-Covid-19 era, employment and business leadership.

Furthermore, the forum’s program will feature over 30 live conversations with prominent politicians and business personalities from Greece and abroad. Most of these will be broadcast live from the Zapio mansion in Athens.

The Delphi Economic Forum usually takes place annually in Delphi, central Greece. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it will broadcast live via www.delphiforum.gr.

Registration for the online forum is free.
