According to an announcement by the ministry, ferries in Greece are now allowed to carry 60 percent (from 50 percent) of their maximum passenger capacity set by current legislation. Ships that have cabins are allowed to transport 65 percent (from 55 percent) of their original passenger capacity. Also, the limit of passengers per cabin has increased to 2 (from 1), while the corresponding limit of four people is maintained if it is a family. The decision to ease the Covid-19 restrictions on coastal shipping vessels was made with the consent of the Health Ministry and the General Secretariat for Civil Protection, the maritime ministry said. On his part, Maritime Minister Yiannis Plakiotakis said that the safety protocol will continue to be revised, based on epidemiological data. “We continue consistently, we remain safe,” he said. The minister applauded passengers, crews and ferry companies for complying with the measures.
